Is there anyway to test that the reserve switch system is working without going on a run an running out of fuel, switching to reserve and hoping for the best?
My bike is a 1990 FZR1000 Exup 3GM.
It would also appear that my front brake switch that activates the break light has stopped working. Can one service them or am I in for a new one?

The front brake switch is standard on most Yamaha bikes so swapping out is easy . BUT having said that it probably just needs a squirt of contact cleaner and that the wires it is supposed to have (2) are actually connected properly (no corroded connections )
The reserve switch mechanism on the Tank is a little more hassle. IF some PO has removed the filter tube at any time & not replaced it then your tank will go down to vapour no matter where you put the switch.
You will have to un-bolt the petcock/ reserve switch from the tank & you had better have a spare O ring to keep it from leaking when you bolt it back if memory serves me here.
Take a look at the parts book for your model I do not have one handy sorry....................
