Ignitech spark map help
Does anyone here use the Ignitech TCI?
If so, what map are you using?
I need some help making a spark map.
I have had trouble getting my fzr1000 to run at all with my Ignitech TCI.
The engine will just keep cranking and cranking but not start. It will backfire randomly like the spark timing is retarded.
I suspect I am using the wrong base map.
Any input will be helpful. Thanky.

Make sure you don't have the coils swapped - if the 1-4 cyls are firing when the 2-3 cyls should be, you get lots of noise but don't accomplish much.

I have tried swapping the coils to no avail.
I have exchanged a few emails with ignitech concerning my problem and they sent me a couple spark maps to try.
Using these ignitech-supplied maps the bike will sometimes start and idle for a few minutes but then randomly die never to restart.
I know the problem lies within the ignitech unit because the bike will start and run fine with the factory yamaha TCI.
I was hoping someone else on the site was using the ignitech tci and would be able to give me a known good map to start with.

I bought a TCIP4 v88 unit for my '90 FZR 1000 and the supplied map did not work. After experimenting I found the following settings needed changing to get the timing right so it would run on 4 cyl:
On 'Bike' Tab:
Motorbike type: Special setting
Synchronization method: Wide lobe
Number of lobe at rotor: 8
Number of output coils: 2
Channel 1: Maximum advance: 7, Start advance: 8
Channel 2: Maximum advance: 3, Start advance: 4
1 ignition per revolution
Polarity of pick-up 1: Minus
Pickups interchange (pin 9 a 20): NO
No Polarity check: NO
Lower advance by start: NO
Special dwell by start: NO
Compensation: 0
Tacho pulse per rev: 1
Advance Map Tab:
I ended up with 6 degrees of base advance to give me an actual 5 deg advance at idle as measured with a strobe on a degree wheel. As the crank pick-up position is not adjustable on these engines, they should all be very similar , but its worth a check anyway.
I used the advance curve from the FZR manual as a starting point. The final curve you need will depend on state of engine tune, fuel quality etc.

Auto setting seem to work ok with my 2 Ohm Dynatek coil set-up.
Servo:
I'm not running an EXUP valve so can't comment on this

Your post got me up and running with my ignitech TCI.
To be clear I found my bike to run better with one different parameter than you suggested
On the "Bike" tab I found the polarity of pickup 1 when set to plus made the engine run best.

As far as i know the Ignitech Ignitionunits are still available...some guys in the german FZR-Forum use them,and some of them combine it with a FI-Mod and / or Single-Ignition-Coil-Mods on their FZRs and also YZFs

Just installed the ignitech TCPI4 and having issues with spark - Seems I have none
Connection is good and is reading rpm fine.
I cannot get any spark. I don't know why. The coils are connected to 12V and the orange and white wire.
When I go in the test feature the coils do not spark either.
Dwell is long (coils are 2,3 ohm) but I have tried all settings without success.
Everything else seems to be okay.
Can someone help?

Got it running!
Only change from your settings was the sensor polarity (as said above). Wouldn't read rpm signal in minus...had to put it in auto. By the way I have grey wire (Crank sensor) to yellow wire (pin 9 Ignitech). You probably have the other way around.
From the manual: "No polarity check-The unit controls polarity of the sensor using shape of the signal.If the actual polarity of the sensor is different from the selected one, the unit will block ignition. This option cancels the blocking of ignition." - I guess this explains why I was getting no rpm.
I will report back with tuning results.

Not too shabby hey. A 2014 CBR 1000 with exhaust and can puts out 178 on our dyno.
