FZR seat unit change

Post by Sandor1939 »

Hi guys, i'm a new member of this forum!
I'm writing to ask your opinion about my FzR 1000 exup.
I'd like to change the original seat unit with Suzuki gsx-r (2000-2001) seat unit.
In this link there is an example of my idea:

Will it be necessary to cut the rear frame to make this work?

Goodbye!

I don't know of anyone who's done it; most bodywork transplant do need some sort of fabrication. It's impossible to tell without a lot more detail. Have you tried contacting the poster of that ad? Even if he's selling it, most bike owners have enough pride in what they've done that he may well be willing to chat with you about it. Be upfront that you're interested in the info, but not interested in buying the bike!

the seat unit of the link belonged to yamaha R6 (2000-2003) and not to suzuki gsx-r.
Now i find the way to adapt it at my Fzr.

Goodbye!!

I've just used a 5sl r6 on my 400rr, I did a 3he a few years ago, personally I'd always make your own subframe as you can then always revert if required

It is possible to put any body work on pretty much any bike of the same size.
However, it takes a decent amount of fabricating.
For a FZR1000 you will need at least an yzf600 tank so the seat fits right.
A complete tail including subframe from the donor bike.
Ability to cut and weld aluminum.

And thats about it.

I used an RC complete tail and rebuilt part of it to bolt to the fzr frame. Check out my build thread.
