88' FZR 1000 crusing speed(80-100km) jitters,small surges?

Post by Quick420 »

I dont quite know how to explain this but when I'm at crusing speed, say 100kph.I get these kinda surges....like uh-uh -uh -uh.All while maintaining 100kph.If I give it a wee bit of throttle it accelerates slightly and goes away,or if I let off ever so slighly it goes away. It's not a miss,it will run strong all the way to redline, and tops out at 250ish'(good for an 88?) Its the cruise speed where there is no load on the engine type cruising, that it kinda surges? Its like riding a dirt bike at top speed in 6th gear looking for 7th gear if ya know what I mean? I'm about to give it a (quick) run with no air filter to see what goes on......It has new plugs, idles wonderfully, stock pipe(repacked) Other than the annoying boggle I love this bike a lot!.I'm aiming to paint it candy apple purple/with silver accents and stickers(maybe from a different year?was there a purple/silver fzr.

Probably just needs the carbs cleaned and synced. Also check plugs, plug wire connecting and make sure no water is down in the spark plug area.

Hey guys, small update on my issue.I was told the chain was good when I bought the bike but was having second thoughts about it.I replaced it with a spare I had laying around and low and behold it's very much smoother now>The orig chain must have random stretch spots making it very erratic. The chain I'm using now is a 530 where the bike calls for a 535,the 535 is wider and more solid and should provide smoother power.I still desperately need an exhaust, but new chain and sprockets are on the way.BTW I ran down a Honda Hurricane yesterday and ask for a quick rolling start race but he declined.....lol

535 chain is now classed as obsolete.
The specs of modern good quality 530 chain far exceed original 535.

As in most things ; with 530 being so popular the price has reduced dramatically.

A good chain is mandatory on plus 80 hp machines.( any really !)
