Runs like crap after a few minutes at high speed
So I normally am not too squidly, but last week I was coming home from work on the tollroad and found myself working my way to the front of the pack. Ended up running right around 100mph for a few minutes coming up a hill. After a couple of minutes it started losing power like I was running out of g...

Re: Battery doesn't charge when fan runs?
Don, Thanks for the reply, I didn't see it until today. I haven't sorted everything out fully, but it looks like what was happening is that the coolant level was low and the system had to work overtime to try and cool the bike. I topped off the coolant and everything has been fine so far. The proble...

Re: Battery doesn't charge when fan runs?
Thanks for following up Chirs. If you do get your voltages I'd love to hear what they are. I finally got a new multitester last night but won't be able to run tests for a couple more days. I am hoping that the stator is OK and that I can resolve it by cleaning terminals ,making sure the fan spins fr...

Re: Running on 3 cylinders (Random cylinder at fault)
Not an expert on this, but my first thought reading you post was coils, but you appear to have eliminated that. Which leads me to my suggestion. Could your TCI be failing? If I am remembering this correctly it is going to control the coils and how and when cylinders fire. I can't exactly envision ho...

Re: Battery doesn't charge when fan runs?
I took a chance yesterday and rode it to work again, but I took the precaution of packing another charged battery in my saddlebags! I also decided that I would not brave the stop and go traffic and spend the 5 bucks for the toll road. No problem, without the stop and go I rode all the way home and t...

Re: Battery doesn't charge when fan runs?
Thanks for the reply Chris. I do need to find out if it is the actual fan or if something else is going on and the heat is just coincidental.

Re: Battery doesn't charge when fan runs?
Nobody has any thoughts? Is there any way to have the fan run while testing the output volts to determine if the fan is pulling too much? Any suggestions on why the fan might start pulling too much current?
I'd appreciate any suggestions....

Battery doesn't charge when fan runs?
Hey guys, so the bike has stranded me twice now and it jus pisses me off! '93 FZR600 with the Honda VR upgrade (after the OEM fried and cooked my headlights, taillights and turn signal relay.) After doing the VR upgrade and replacing the lights it ran great. Until a couple of weeks ago. I rode the b...

Re: shinko 006 tires
I have had mine about a year and they have been great tires for the price. Seem to have a good balance of grip and wear/lifespan. I don't do track days or get extremely crazy in the corners, but I ride in the rocky mountains a lot and spend a ton of time leaning them over

Re: Fixing sticky links in drive chain
Thanks George. Good point about the rust turning into grinding paste though. Let's just say I wasn't planning on storing the bike. The VR blew on a long ride up in the mountains and I had to leave the bike up there for a few months before I could arrange to bring it home. I hate when your rides end ...

Re: Idle adjustment question
Sounds like you're out of synch. Try turning the center screw (in between carbs 2&3) counter clockwise while it's running. It'll start to "calm down". Id suggest getting some fuel, building or buying a synch tool, and the adult beverage of your choice and diving into a good synch session. Should ru...

Fixing sticky links in drive chain
Hey all, I had to let the FZR sit for a few months due to a blow VR, and some cooked electrics ( not to mention winter in CO). I did the VR upgrade, cleaned the carbs, replaced the boiled battery etc. When I went for my first test ride I noticed that I have some sticky links in my chain. The chain i...

Re: Idle adjustment question
Theoretically quite a lot but I have had mine running with just carbs to the open air no tank cover[/quote] Thanks for the reply George, I thought that I had done some tuning on them with the airbox off previously. How else could you sync? I tried to start it again this AM and it fired up pretty qui...

Re: Idle adjustment question
Thanks for the replies. Bound throttle cable was my first thought too, but I checked that. With these bikes how much difference do you see in starting it with the air filter out, air box off, completely buttoned up? Just curious how much of a difference air flow made on idle/starting?
