Re: ATTN: All FZR Archives transplants
I actually moved to Las Vegas and worked for Dynojet Research for a couple of years, but recently settled in Orange County so I'm back in SoCal. Life kind of kept me away from my own bikes for a bit, but that should be changing this year. Stoked to hear you still have the hybrid. Your bike inspired ...

Re: ATTN: All FZR Archives transplants
I've been kinda MIA for the past couple of years, and decided to check in with the FZR crowd, today, as well. I still have a couple of 400s, but it does seem pretty quiet, around here.

Re: fzr400 1wg and 3tj frame rake angle geometry question
U.S. FZR400s (1WG) got the 1WG box-section swingarm (1989), or the 3EN2 Deltabox swing arm (1990) Both offer the same width, but I lied. The rear caliper mount and sprocket carrier will also need machine work to get the 3TJ wheel in. Similar to fitting a TZR250 wheel. I've read of other accounts, bu...

Re: fzr400 1wg and 3tj frame rake angle geometry question
The rear 3TJ wheels doesn't fit the any of the 1wg swingarms Modify the swinger to accept the 3TJ axle, and make up some wheel spacers. It will fit. So without looking at "tree rake" I was right, except it would seem that an increase of tree offset would be needed to increase trail, rather than a r...

Re: FZR562 questions
While not a direct answer to your question, it is still relevant, and hopefully helpful. The only reason to use the 400 case would be for class limitations requiring an FZR400 motorcycle to retain the stock engine cases. Obviously, that shouldn't apply in your case. Thus, I would use a YZF600 engine...

Re: carb problems i think. please help!!
Sounds like a potential lean condition. Could be caused by vacuum leaks from the intake spigots or rubber couplers. You can check for vacuum leaks by spraying "quick start" (ether) around the intake spigots while the motor is idling. If RPM changes after spraying that would indicate a leak. Make sur...

Re: 4JH forks onto a 3HE
You will need to swap over the triple clamps (yokes). Front spindle is the same diameter, but you may need to pay attention to wheel spacers if you run the 3HE wheel. Another option would be to swap from a ThunderCat. Same triple clamps, and better forks. T-Cat has larger spindle, so you will need t...

Re: 89 FZR400...muffler mods?
Never heard of Supertrap baffles on a stock muffler. I may have the hardware for your tank, or check with fzrbrandon. He is parting-out a 400.

Re: swapping for better performance?
One thing to keep in mind when swapping to wider swingarms is that they can also be longer... I run a 160/60-17, but I've never heard of an FZR600 running out of rear traction due to tire size with a 150. (I'm betting that Reelrazor makes significantly more power than pretty much everyone here, and ...

Re: swapping for better performance?
I think what reelrazor is trying to say is that FZRs were built for corners, and swapping suspension components can significantly alter chasis geometry. The type of modification you propose (longer swingarm) will not only hamper the bike's performance in the turns, but will make it harder to wheelie...

Re: Getting the FZR 600 Ready!
Any motorcycle of that vintage that has been sitting for a while could benefit from a carburetor clean/rebuild. Hard-starting and poor drivability like you describe could be related to the carbs, but it would also suggest the valves need adjusting. Valve adjustment should be performed at your indica...

1WG: -Rake: 24 degrees -Trail: 89mm -Wheelbase: 1400mm 3TJ: -Rake: 24 degrees -Trail: 92mm -Wheelbase 1365mm Increased trail on the 3TJ was influenced by 5mm less fork off-set in the tripple clamps and moving to a 120/60-17 front tire. Swingarms are the same length, so wheelbase is due to decreased ...

Re: FAT front wheel axle modification/upgrade... ???
Sure, I replaced mine with a 25mm axle, but I had to swap in R6 forks to make it happen. I don't have 38mm forks, laying around anymore, but I'm betting there isn't enough material in the stantions to fit a 25mm axle. Possibly 17mm, but would that be large enough to overcome the issues at hand? Geor...

Re: Engine cradle removal
The forward motor mounts bolt to the lower front section of the cradles, so they are "stressed" at that point. However the upper and lower rear motor mounts should be enough support the motor while the cradles are out. The only instances where I have removed cradles is when I was also removing the m...

Re: Engine cradle removal
May be a little late, but as long as both front and rear of the bike are supported, it is not necessary to support the motor in order to remove the cradles. Just keep both upper and lower rear motor mounts attached to the frame to keep the motor from "falling" out of the bike.
