Re: Carburetor Needs Choked
Sorry, I just noticed your latest post realrazor. I bought the bike about a month ago, and it had been sitting in a garage for 3 years prior to that. My post where I was able to get it to run without choking was the most accurate example of the closest it has ran. I haven't check all the pipes, but ...

Re: Carburetor Needs Choked
Whoa. These seriously measure kilometers on the odometer? That's neat. I guess I need to text the PO today and inquire about which carbs are on it. That also makes me wonder if I have the extra boots in one of my parts boxes. The boots I have on it were pretty badly cracked, so I put about 7 thick l...

Re: Carburetor Needs Choked
I'm still in touch with the previous owner, so I need to see when the last time he serviced the carbs was. As for the milage it has about 27,000 on the bike itself, but that number is inconsequential because the original motor was replaced with one from another bike after the first got water in it. ...

Re: Carburetor Needs Choked
Awesome. Do y'all know of a good place to get a kit for the seals, or should I just Google a place or Ebay them?

Re: Carburetor Needs Choked
Lol ok, I will wait for him. Thanks for the reassurance on the valves, though. I have another set of heads, but I don't much care for head work or the cost to get it remachined. I also am not sure as to their condition, because they are attached to another engine I have. So that is a huge relief.

Re: Carburetor Needs Choked
So I can check the boots again to make sure I don't have any cracks I didn't notice, but what exactly do you mean by "AT the butterfly shaft." Please elaborate, so I can investigate this possibility further. My other question is could this possibly be an issue further into the engine. I have heard t...

Re: Carburetor Needs Choked
No. I don't have a flow gauge, but I'm slowly beginning to learn there are a lot of tools I need that I've never considered buying before. At the point I'm at, if there is something wrong with my carbs I am genuinely at a loss. I've taken them apart 3 times now, and each time I have pushed the clean...

Re: Carburetor Needs Choked
Adjusting the idle mixture screws is how I got it start idling right. I tried adjusting it more precisely, and it ended up making it worse. I've had two people insist its the slides hanging, so I'm going to double check them. I honestly don't think it's them, though, because they are super smooth no...

Re: Carburetor Needs Choked
I took the jets, needles, emulsion tubes, and air fuel screws out and let them all soak in carb cleaner for hours. I then emptied another can of carb cleaner through the carb bodies and checked each passage to ensure I could get fluid through it. I smoothed out the slides to ensure there were no rou...

Re: Carburetor Needs Choked
Well a quick update. I adjusted the air fuel screw out another 1/2 turn and it will start and idle with the choke off (yay!) I now have a new issue. When I rev it over 4k, it gets hung there and doesn't like to come back down. It will go as high as I like, but it takes forever for it to decide to co...

I'm glad I'm not alone on this one. Hopefully one of us with get it figured out soon. Let me know if you get any ideas on what's going on!

Re: Carburetor Needs Choked
Well I tore all the carbs down and soaked everything in carb cleaner, checked float heights, adjusted the air fuel screws 2.5 turns out (may need to adjust them out further), made sure everything moved and flowed smoothly. With all that done it was still idling weird, and won't come off choke withou...

Carburetor Needs Choked
So on my '89 600 motor I am having an issue that began with rough idle, not being able to take the bike off choke, or being able to even nudge the throttle without it dying. After some expirimenting and fixing a few things (like cleaning the carbs and repairing the carb boots) I've noticed that if I...

Re: Couple quick questions.
So about the pod filters; I'm unsure if the owner ever adjusted the jets to accommodate the slip-on and the pods. So should I just hook back up the airbox, or will it be worth moding the rubber "stacks" to use on the pods? I plan to try contacting the previous owner to ask if he did any jet work, bu...

Re: Couple quick questions.
I had been reading reading around yesterday, and saw that everybody suggests using the rubber "stacks" from the stock airbox. Luckily I have a couple airboxes lying around, so I'm sure I have those somewhere. I already replaced the battery the other day, as wiring issues were my biggest concerns. I ...
