Re: Engine rebuild

I have a 1WG and a 3EN1 and the airbox appears to be the same on both even though the carbs are different. I hope some others will chime in on this. I see the one you are looking at is in Japan. I have seen airboxes come up from time to time on US eBay. I have found they run better with stock airbox...

Re: Engine rebuild

According to the 1WG number in the listing that would make the donor bike a FZR400SP:

Re: Engine rebuild

I would caution about buying a cylinder block on line because you won't know if it's been bored out or not. Even a stock bore block will likely have wear so you would be looking at a re-bore one or two sizes over. Whoever does the boring will need the pistons to get the correct bore within tolerance...

Re: Engine rebuild

Before you pull it apart I would check to see if you can get new pistons at all. On a previous FZR400 of mine I had really low compression on one cylinder so I pulled the head and cylinder block. The one bore was badly gouged so it needed a rebore. The pistons were already two sizes over but luckily...

If these are what you are referring to they look a little different:

Re: Replacing Cooling System Hoses

Thanks Snydes. I will look into that option. I also since found out that a mate of mine used silicone hose lengths & various elbow shapes from Pegasus Racing to make up a set for a custom project.

Replacing Cooling System Hoses

Interested to hear about solutions/ideas for replacing the (now unobtainium) rubber coolant hoses on the FZR400. My searches have not revealed any kits available.

Carb Intake Rubber Boot Markings question

The rubber manifold boots that join the carbs to the cylinder head are marked "R" on one side and "L" on the other. Can anyone explain what this means as they look identical to me whichever way around they are. Thanks!

Re: Carb Mystery Pipe - Mystery Solved!

Snydes I owe you an apology....the answer is on a Partzilla parts diagram....I was just not looking at the right one! Turns out the 3FH are California "C" Model carbs. The "C" model bikes have a canister for emissions and there is a pipe that goes from the canister to the carb (#84 in this parts pic...

Re: Carb Mystery Pipe

Yes what you have circled on Carb #2 is a blind plug and that is the same on 1 and 3. On #4 (the circle on the left of your pic) is the mystery tube. I attached a length of pvc tube to it and blew through and it does actually blow right through into the carb body right where the butterfly sits. I wo...

Re: Carb Mystery Pipe

I also have those two vent pipes between each pair of carbs. The mystery pipe is only on Carb #4 (right hand side). I did find out that the 3FH designation was for the 1988 US model with EXUP. I did have a 1WG model before and I don't recall seeing this mystery pipe on them.

Re: Carb Mystery Pipe

It doesn't show up on any parts diagrams. I do see 3FH stamped on the side.

Carb Mystery Pipe

Does anyone know what this pipe does? It's on the right side carb only.

Are the FZR400 FAQ from the FZR Archives available anywhere?
