Thanks M in KC for the tip! i went to home depot today and picked up some 6mm welding tips, after some searching around i found that they are a perfect fit for the vacuum ports on the carb boots. tomorrow after work im going to install them and work on syncing the carbs. after i get that done, i'll ...

Re: Help! cant get my FZR6 to idle right!

Great ideas, thanks! I think since I finally got the air leak problem resolved that I'll go ahead and try to sync the carbs again with the manometer that I built. Speaking of which, do you know where I can find the adapters for the carb boots to sync the carbs? I made a set out of grease fittings wh...

Re: Help! cant get my FZR6 to idle right!

ok, so the carb boots fixed the air leak! however...still a couple of issues i need to get worked out. in first gear when i let the clutch out to start rolling, the bike starts bogging down and doesnt want to start moving... it does not feel like a transmission issue, feels more like the engine just...

Re: Help! cant get my FZR6 to idle right!

I found out that the carb holder boots are leaking at their bases. I pulled them off, mounted each One to a flat sheet of 1/4in steel, plugged the openings and used my smoke machine to fill them With smoke. Sure enough, smoke started pouring out at the base of each boot! I ordered a set of new boots...

Re: Help! cant get my FZR6 to idle right!

I worry about buying used rubber parts because they may be just as old and stiff as the ones I have so I would have to Buy new. The bike is in decent shape, but a lot of the mounting holes on the fairings are broken out and the fairings have some Road rash from when my step bro laid it Down. They wo...

Re: Help! cant get my FZR6 to idle right!

I've tried everything you guys have suggested on the air box boots, and nothing is working! The openings have shrunk down to where even if they are soft from the heat gun, they still won't fit on the carbs. My only option at this point is to buy new ones. I just now pulled the carbs back off, and I ...

Re: Help! cant get my FZR6 to idle right!

Ok, so I've got my air box boots simmering in my wife's crockpot until the morning... Which in case you guys were wondering, did not go over well... she said ,"WHAT are you Putting in my crockpot!?!" I had to reassure her that the parts were just rubber, and they were cooking in just water! Hahaha:-...

Re: Help! cant get my FZR6 to idle right!

I will try that for sure, Tclayton9 suggested simmering antifreeze in a crackpot over night And soaking the boots in there.
Man if that's my only problem, Id be happier than "a camel on Wednesday"....

Re: Help! cant get my FZR6 to idle right!

Well maybe my airbox is the whole problem then?
When I get home from the gym today I'll work on getting the boots to soften up so they fit back on the carbs. I wonder how much they cost to replace?

Re: Help! cant get my FZR6 to idle right!

I agree! It sure does seem like I have an air leak. So if the boots between my carbs and air box are leaking, that would cause it to run lean? I always thought that it would have to leak air between the carbs and the engine for it to run lean. I really appreciate all of the comments and help so far!...

Re: Help! cant get my FZR6 to idle right!

The boots between the airbox and carbs were very hard... so hard that I could not get them to fit On to the carbs. I tried pulling them out and soaking them in transmission fluid, but it did no good. I ended up pulling them back out of the Air box, flipping them around and putting them back in. The ...

Re: Help! cant get my FZR6 to idle right!

When I pull the choke out, the engine screams up around 4 to 5k. it runs a lot smoother at Higher rpms, but when I take the choke off the idle drops down around 1k, then slows even more until it dies. It I give it throttle it stumbles and almost dies, if I kind of feather the throttle it eventually ...

Re: Help! cant get my FZR6 to idle right!

Ok so I turned the screws out to 3 and 1/2 turns and it seems a LITTLE bit better, but still Not right. I grabbed the temp gun and shot each exhaust pipe at the manifold. My temp gun read "OL" on 3 pipes, and 1 of them was reading around 350 degrees... Not sure what the OL means, but it sure seems l...
