Oil catch tray - anyone done one?

Next problem to resolve is creating an oil catch tray to comply with track regs - this is giving me a real headache as every direction I turn I come up against another problem. Apparently it has to be made from glass fibre and resin, so the foil roasting dish idea has gone out of the window. Has ANY...

Re: 150 60 18 BT 090 rear tyre

In the end I opted for the bt45s, going with a 140 rear as my local shop had one in stock (obviously he's had it a while, the sticker was really faded and it was even covered in cobwebs! God knows how hard the rubber has become...) The catalogue on the desk gave these tyres 1 out of 5 stars for raci...

Re: 150 60 18 BT 090 rear tyre

Does that 1/2" really make all the difference to the overall profile, or is there another reason it's not really recommended (such as bead seating)? As far as I can see 18" tyres are actually getting a little easier to find here in Europe, though not in the most popular models... the choice I have r...

150 60 18 BT 090 rear tyre

I have a 1st generation '89 FZR with the original skinny rear wheel, and I need a new tyre for the circuit - the tyre companies all appear to recommend 150/70/18 as the tyre size of choice (even for my model) but I have found a 150/60/18 Bridgestone BT090 - anyone have experience of this tyre in thi...

Re: Racing an FZR / post classic endurance

Many thanks - due to the regs I have to keep the wheels standard size, I saw most people were using Conti Classic Attack or Avon AM22/ 23 tyres at last year's (very wet!) Bol d'Or classic, I'll have a look for something along the lines of the slicks you have mentioned. I'll check out the archives to...

Racing an FZR / post classic endurance

I'm thinking about doing some post classic racing with my FZR600 ('89), and I'd be interested in anyone who has raced one in the past regarding mods & setup/ race bodywork etc. It is currently in completely standard trim, except for a period Lazer can, and will face stiff some competition from much ...

Re: Battery Acid all over the place!

.... aah, it seems the previous owner put a fresh battery in without checking the acid levels, it was right up to the top in several cells which may explain the leaking. I've taken some acid out & fitted a new discharge tube, but hopefully that's the end of it. Sadly the damage has been done :(

Battery Acid all over the place!

My battery seems to have leaked it's acid over pretty much everything during a long ride in hot weather - I noticed it running down the frame & when looked closer found it had gone everywhere, what a mess! - sadly the discharge tube was missing, but I'd like to know what caused it anyway - apparentl...

Re: Weak spark, no. 3

I'll get a set of plug caps & see what happens - I took the cap off & couldn't get any reading whatsoever, either regarding resistance or continuity. I cut a piece off the lead & it took ages to screw the cap back on! It still runs just the same, I'm hoping it's the cap, can't see what else it could...

Re: Weak spark, no. 3

I've had the plug in & out several times for a visual check, the spark is very weak on no.3. What I don't understand is that no.3 was working fine on the old plugs when 1 & 4 were out of action (I've got the burnt knuckles to prove it!), I only changed plugs as I was going to do so as a matter of co...

Weak spark, no. 3

After the initial delight in finding a lovely clean fzr, I'm now reminded just how old it actually is.... Firstly it started running on cylinders 2 & 3 (1 & 4 were stone cold), new plugs (CR9EIX) were gap-checked & fitted and now it runs on 1,2 & 4, and just about on 3 which is sparking but very ver...

Re: How-To Get Rid of Rust in your Gas Tank

Nice job.Looks very good after treating.I had never seen a rusty tank inner. Is it common? Rusty tanks are a real pain - I went to look at an RG125 Gamma earlier this week, bought in 1990 and unused since 1992 it had done just 660 miles from new! Sadly the owner had left 1/2 a tank of petrol in it w...

Perfect fork set up

My 3HE forks are bottoming out like many owners on the forum - going to overhaul the front end & was wondering if anyone has any views on new springs & oil weight; I've seen Hagon progressive springs for £80 (wemoto), and Hyperpro for £116.85 including oil (ebay). I weigh about 85kg, and I imagine b...
