Re: FZR/XR650R Build Thread....... It's Alive!

Well, time to bring this thread back from the dead...... Since doing the track sessions on the XR, I disassembled the bike to make further modifications and I really didn't get any further. In the meantime I spent the 2016 race season endurance racing a 250 Ninja and had a blast. For various reasons...

Re: FZR400 modern sport tire choices?

Surviving a trackday on Shinko's "proves" little. I have yet to see or hear about anyone who is racing and winning consistently on Shinko's. That should tell you something about how good they are. The list of good tires that will fit on the OEM FZR400 rear wheel is almost nonexistent. Which is why g...

3TJ Swingarm and 1WG forks

Swingarm has a nice powdercoat job. Comes with the brake hanger, swingarm bearings and pivot shaft (not pictured). I may have a few other parts to go with it and I'll gather them all up. The pivot shaft has some wear that you typically see where the bearings ride on it. Also, I spent a good deal of ...

Re: FZR/XR650R Build Thread....... It's Alive!

There's definitely more room than the "standard" Deltabox swingarm and I think a 5.5 wheel with 250gp rubber would work ok. But I'm just sticking with what I've got on there now anyway.

Re: FZR/XR650R Build Thread....... It's Alive!

I haven't done much to the bike since I rode it on the track in September and I figured I'd better get going on it before December turns into March! I have an FZR400RR swingarm that I was going to put on the bike so that I could put a 5.5" wheel on so that I could use proper 250 GP bike tires, but I...

Re: FZR400 Clutch - first attempt

Hi all, the next job on the list for the FZR 400 resto is to figure out why the clutch wont disengage (pull the lever and it saty s in gear, or pull the lever and try to engage 1st and it is like you havent pulled the lever in at all) There's what Id deem th enormal amount of resistance when the le...

Re: FZR400 Clutch - first attempt

When you get the clutch apart look for this: http://s6.postimg.org/5s65oeu9t/Clutch_basket_ridges.jpg Those ridges are not supposed to be there, it should be smooth. This is a really bad case where this clutch probably doesen't even disengage, but even having small ridges can play hell with your abi...

Re: FZR/XR650R Build Thread....... It's Alive!

Looks great. I really like the rear caliper holder. It seems like it would make wheel changes much easier. Also, the cap screw on the rear of the axle block, is that like a pinch bolt? I would not go crazy with trying to shave weight. It's fun but IMO magnesium rims is too far. Try to score some TZ...

Re: 17 inch rear wheel swap in a fzr400-600?

I'll probably drill & tap for "bobbins" just aft of where the machined section is welded to the swingarm.

As for the captive spacers and guides, I made my own set for the current swingarm, so I should be able to use them on the "new" swingarm.

Re: FZR/XR650R Build Thread....... It's Alive!

I weighed the bike last week. Total weight without gas was 287lbs. A bit disappointing since I was looking to get it under 270. The good news is that there are many places where I can shave weight off of the existing parts. More good news is that lighter (i.e. magnesium) wheels should bring that ver...

Re: FZR/XR650R Build Thread....... It's Alive!

Interesting weekend.... I got the FZXRR project bike started for the first time on Thursday at lunch. Just the motor starting was very good news since I had bought it off ebay and (other than a complete disassembly to check) there was no good way for me to know if it was actually a good motor. Thurs...
