I've had good luck with easy outs on the studs. Just be careful your drill bit doesn't walk. The trick is to make sure it's seated deep enough, make sure the easy out you're using has enough of it in the hole.

So, if someone were rebuilding an 87-88 1000, what are advisable mods to make solely for durability/longevity? I could have sworn there were sturdier rods that could be swapped in but that's most of what I've heard for durability.
