Re: Air box question
I want to button up this thread a little ‘cause it drives me crazy when I’m reading forums that go on for pages then drop dead a post before the “answer”. The U.S. 400’s box volume is a shave under 6,500cc (w/ filter). I have a different filter set up from stock now, running a single UNI (UP-6245ST)...

Re: FZR 400 '90 1WG Carb Question
Crud. Ebay can be a gamble sometimes. Maybe a skillfully set Heli-Coil type insert? (I don't think I've used one that small but I'm guessing their out there.) Or maybe some kind of epoxy/ JB weld/ aluminum repair goo, hardened around the inserted (fully seated) screws-- something gas-proof that is, ...

Re: FZR 400 '90 1WG Carb Question
I’ve had a few banks of these in my hand recently, experimenting and swapping parts around... What I know about ‘em is that the 400 manual lists carb “Type” as “Mikuni BDS32” for all models. However, pages later it distinguish between carb “I.D. marks": 3BF-00 (non Cali.), 3FH-00 (Cali. model). The ...

Re: Need Info! What is the Swingarm Pivot height of your Bik
From its center, the pivot bolt is 15 7/8 from the ground. The swing arm (meaning here, a straight line from pivot to rear axle) lays at 11.5 deg. (Figures without rider.) Compared to stock the only relevant considerations (aside from the fox clicker) seem to be that I'm running a Battlax, 150/60 @ ...

Re: Need Info! What is the Swingarm Pivot height of your Bik
Hey hey, Just saw this now as well-- I have a fox clicker on my 400 but I'll get some specs for ya tonight. I'm not sure of it's height compared to stock (or even if it's adjustable/ came on bike/ clicked it up one and haven't looked at it since) but maybe it will help ya somewhere along the way. John

Re: cams/ cams/ cams
Trying a straight swap for the time being—600 in. as 400 in./ 600 ex. as 400 ex. (I'll move ‘em around next week to different configurations... I’m not bothered opening up the top a few times to experiment.) First, they fit no problem (’89 600s into a ‘90 400 clear everything/ I’m trying to clean up...

Re: cams/ cams/ cams
Opened up my engine-- jeez, do those intakes get tight...
FZR400 EX. cam: duration @40 is 273deg. / @50, 267deg.
If people are swapping out 400 ex. cams for 600 intakes they must be in it for the lift ‘cause the duration is near identical.

Re: cams/ cams/ cams
The 600's intake duration is 272deg. @40deg.-- At 50deg. it was something like 266. (I used 40 just 'cause that's how Megacycle does it.) It's longer then any after-market cams I've seen offered, which isn't to say "better" of course because different durations serve different rider needs. I'll go c...

Re: cams/ cams/ cams
Thanks... The difference seems to be this: FZR400 exhaust cam has a lift of (roughly) .2874—FZR600 intake lift is .3070. So the 600 in. in the 400 ex. seems to be marginally better (tomorrow I’ll measure duration on the 600… I can’t on the 400 as I have no 400 cam available) The lift is on the mild ...

Re: cams/ cams/ cams
I figured something may need to be done to the springs and was wondering what people who used the 600's did (although the swap from 400 to 600 is not all that radical). Did they run the 400 springs/ can you use the 600 springs in the 400/ did they get new springs? At one point, I also seemed to hear...

cams/ cams/ cams
I’m looking at a valve adjustment in the near future and while I'll be in there anyway (and while I have some 600 cams in a box somewhere) I’ve been thinking about cam swaps. So… Looking for information from anyone that’s put something a little more aggressive into the 400… I’d really like to know w...

Re: Air box question
Thanks. I know most of this info is specific to my layout but I figured it might be useful to anyone trying to wrap their mind around systems like this-- I experimented with, and learned a lot of general info messing around this week. And here’s one more thing (actually related to the reasons I star...

Re: Air box question
Hope I’m not getting too far into the weeds with inane detail for you guys but… With just the inlet sitting near flush to the top of the tank (no scoop) I took the front fairing off and tried to run the bike hard. I couldn’t and got entirely different results then with fairing on (which were really ...

This is what I did two nights ago: http://fzronline.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=29092&width=150&height=113 http://fzronline.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=29095&width=150&height=113 Simple, but a good start... The top of the inlet will sit flu...
