Re: Air box question
The BDK snorkel needs the radiator to be notched or dropped down, BDK do a specific rad for this and racing so it's bigger volume too. The 600's cam cover sits higher than the 400 so you can't get the snorkel in. You can cut a hole in the bottom headstock bracing though (this 3TJ frame) and strengt...

Re: Starting my build
Just re-read this thread and caught your note about 3TJ rearsets swapping onto a 1WG. Could you post pics? If they are a decent swap that would imply 1WG units would fit my 3TJ... making spares much easier to source.

Re: Anyone familiar with fiddy's?
Have you checked the valves yet? If the intake in particular is tight, you won't have any compression and it'll be a PITA to get running. Motor at TDC on the compression stroke so both valves are closed, you should be able to grab either tappet with your hand and feel it 'tick' up and down against t...

Re: Wrecked Screws
If you switch to allens, go easy when you torque them as you can very quickly strip the cast carb body out.

Re: Seafoam motor treatment. Has anyone used this?
Pouring Seafoam down the carb throats doesn't do anything for the carbs, at best it will loosen up some carbon in the combustion chamber that's not causing any trouble any ways. The majority will slide down past the rings while you give it it's 30 minute working time, pulling some oil off the cylind...

Wanted - 3TJ 'SP' Race Wheels
I'll be racing a 3TJ6 this year in the New England area, primarily with LRRS. Got the bike mostly sorted but I only have the one set of OEM wheels. I'd love to have a second set so I can have my rains mounted and ready to go. If I can luck into a set of lightweight aftermarket wheels for the machine...

If the wheels are viable, I could use a second set for my race 3TJ.

Re: I broke off header studs :(
Reverse drill bits, start small, work your way up and odds are once you remove enough material to relieve the stress the stud will come out with the bit.

Re: Fuel Injection kits for the FZR400, FZR600, YZF600
For starters, the 'fitment' is based on the head. His current kit will shove onto any YZF600 head. Considering I'm running 3TJ carbs on a YZF600 head in my project, there is a good chance this TB setup will slap onto a 3TJ 400 as well. Once you have the mechanicals sorted, the electrical and tuning ...

Might be worth having the head and cylinder decks skimmed to true them up too.

That's an interesting staccato it's got when you're not on the throttle, is that just the pipe or is it missing on one cylinder?

Re: 489cc screamer build
Pure dumb luck. It was posted in the fzrarchives classified section the day I decided to take a random stroll through. Former WERA race machine, one of 3 3TJs that Speedwerks imported for people over the years.pefrey wrote:Where did you find the RRSP?

Re: 489cc screamer build
So, no new pics yet, but lots of build news. To get around the YZF/FZR crank compatibility issue, I bought a former race FZR 400 RR SP (3TJ) complete with a viable 400 bottom end. Speedwerks has done a few of these scream builds over the years so rather than learn as I go and possibly guess wrong on...
