My bike had K&N pods and I switched back to the stock airbox. You lose a little low and mid end power but gain high end. This was proven at the track but not on a dyno. +1. When I bought my bike it hadn't corroded as much as it had MELTED the two connectors together. That was fun extracting the wires and stuff. Not. If I am reading it right it sounds like it starts acting up once it's warmed up? It's very possible it could be something electrical as you think. A lot of electronic equipment will fail once warm/hot because the parts expand with heat. You can't bench test the CDI so I'd test anything else you can ...
