Re: 89 FZR1000 Rehab Thread

So I've got all the pinch bolts loosened, and I was able to take out the rear top frame bolt (I loosened it actually, it spins by hand now). However I'm having trouble taking out the front most mounting bolts. I actually broke an allen wrench and a socket with an allen bit. Is there a trick to finag...

Re: 89 FZR1000 Rehab Thread

I've got the Haynes Manual. I got everything unbolted today in my 12 degree F garage. Using a kerosene heater to knock off the chill (if thats really possible). Only trouble I had was getting the cables off the EXUP exhaust, but the manual helped me there. I'm going to unbolt it from the frame tomor...

Re: 89 FZR1000 Rehab Thread

I've changed the oil twice in the whole month I've owned, and rode it less than 20 miles. Bah, making space in the basement to work on this thing... New starter clutch is $104 and change. Anyone have a better price? Is there anything else I'll need to replace when I take this apart?

Re: 89 FZR1000 Rehab Thread

So it's official. The engine DOES need to be removed to replace the starter clutch on the FZR1000. I'm not afraid of doing that, but it's just an awful amount of work. Anyone have thoughts on doing this a different way, or does anyone have a very low mileage fzr1000 engine for sale? I'm surprised wi...

Re: 89 FZR1000 Rehab Thread

For the starter clutch cover... I have the clutch plate cover and a little 3 screw cover right next to that. In the haynes manual it shows a 5 screw cover. Is this the same thing? The screws stripped on my first try to take any of them out, so I'm working on that one right now... TIA.

Re: 89 FZR1000 Rehab Thread

RAW a pic would be great. I'm getting snap back since I swapped the cables, but it's not as much as before I took it apart. Could just need more adjustment. I drained the oil tonight, I'm going to check the starter clutch first then work to the possible stuck clutch plates. Where is the starter clut...

Re: 89 FZR1000 Rehab Thread

Your suggestion isn't really an option for me unfortunately. I live on back roads and it's a bit too cold to be pushing a motorcycle up a hill. There must be another way to determine if the starter clutch is slipping than "grabbing onto the tailgate of a truck" and dumping the clutch. I know you hav...

Re: Clacking on attempted startup: 89 FZR1000

So I got everything back together and now when I try to start it in neutral or in 1st gear it makes a few revolutions (as if its going to catch) and the I hear a spinning sound. Kind of a like a high pitched whine. Is this something to do with the clutch? It tries almost every time but always goes t...

Re: Clacking on attempted startup: 89 FZR1000

Alright. So I am having a bit of trouble with the throttle linkage. I I've got everything going the right way, but the snap back isn't that same as it was before I took off the carbs. I've attached some pics I just took of what it currently is. Is it where I have those locking/adjusting nuts? Which ...

Re: Clacking on attempted startup: 89 FZR1000

Thanks mate. I somehow made a myself a bit of work with the throttle linkage and what not, so I'm bound up trying to get snap back on the throttle right now. The Haynes manual is awful for this, as the pictures are quiet dark and the description doesn't apply to a 1000, rather a 600 and they seem to...

Re: Clacking on attempted startup: 89 FZR1000

So to sync the carbs up I do carbs 3 and 4 first, then 1 and 2. Then 2 and 3? I can do all that with the two bottle solution? And excuse me for being naive, but the carburetor has enough vacuum to move fluid from the bottom of that glass starbucks bottle to the hose sticking an inch through the top?...

Re: Clacking on attempted startup: 89 FZR1000

Alright. So I ripped the carbs off today. Everything looks good. Everything. I noticed the cover on the last carb was different than the rest, but I think someone either rebuilt these at some point or its a factory configuration to have the last cover facing the opposite direction. I think it said M...
