chain/sprocket and 520 conversion
I'd like to do a 520 chain conversion on my 89 FZR400 (428 chain is stock, and highest rated aftermarket I can find is only 30hp? Doesn't seem right, it'll stretch out in no time). Has anyone done this? Who makes 520 or 525 sprockets to fit the FZR400 countershaft and rear rim? I'd like to stick to ...

FZR400 - stock sprockets, RPM's at 120 kph?
Hello all, I've had my FZR400 for quite a while now, and the chain/sprockets are starting to get tired and in need of replacement. I know that this bike doesn't have stock sprockets - it has a 47 tooth rear (don't know the front, been too lazy to take the cover off :P), and stock is 19t front/55t re...

Re: bike still not starting :(
Get those valves checked. My 400 went from being a mean-starting bitch to the easiest bike to fire up simply by adjusting the valves. The intake valves were so tight that there was next to no compression when the engine was cold. Now I don't need choke at all unless it is a cool morning below 15C. O...

Re: Winterizing? - semi
In the ever-off-topic random thoughts thread reelrazor mentioned using fogging oil for prep before winter storage. Anyone have experience with this, or is a tablespoon of oil in each cylinder sufficient? I feel that fogging or putting oil in the cylinders is overkill, unless you are prepping your b...

Re: Winterizing? - semi
I use Sta-bil in the fuel, which seems to do the trick. Come spring the bike fires up and runs just fine, although I make a point of freshening up the fuel ASAP. As for chargers, do not use anything bigger than 1 amp on a bike battery. I use a basic 0.5A charger from Canadian Tire, although you can ...

Re: Winterizing? - semi
Up here in Canada, we know how to winterize our bikes. The general consensus is that it is more harmful to start a bike up every so often than it is to just let it sit. If you're going to start it, you should be willing to take it out for a good run and get it fully warmed up. The process of combust...

Re: A funny story
My brother and I were bored farm kids with access to .22 rifles and 12 gauge shotguns.
We didn't have trouble with squirrels, or many other varmints for that matter.

Re: I need help Identifing this rear seat
Get the part number off of it, and try running it on bikebandit.com or some site like that. It might pop up with the year, make, and model of what it's for.

Re: All terrain CBR
Red Tiger put the dirt tires on his bike so he could ride all winter. He studded up the rear tire, but left the front without studs. Riding all winter was hard on the bike; he needed to redo his wheel bearings in the spring from all of the road salt, and if he let the bike sit outside for any period...

Re: Fork springs.
Switch the springs in one fork leg, seal it back up, and THEN do the swap in the other leg. DO NOT take both springs out at the same time. A collapsed front end and fairing damage is the probable result. Don't ask me how I know.

Even the kill switch on the handlebar didn't work?

Re: TIRES!! 110/70-17 front, 150/60-18 rear ????
so what does the 60? 70? mean? how round? It stands for the aspect ratio of the tire. Basically, it depicts the height of the tire as a percentage of it's width. A "70" series tire will have a sidewall height that is 70% of the width, i.e. a 110/70-17 tire is 110mm wide and 77mm high (110*0.7 = 77)...

Re: TIRES!! 110/70-17 front, 150/60-18 rear ????
Avons, huh? I have a set of Avon AM26 Road Riders on my wife's '86 CBR400R Aero. I had a set of BT45's on her bike before that, and I didn't like them. Both are bias ply, but that's what that bike was designed for. I won't put a bias ply tire on the FZR. If you have to take off the chain guard to fi...

Re: TIRES!! 110/70-17 front, 150/60-18 rear ????
I too do a lot of straight up commuting miles, and this is why I don't want a BT014. That level of stickiness would just be an expensive waste for me. The only Sportmax that I can find on Dunlop's site is the Roadsmart, and while it appears to have the characteristics that I am looking for, it is a ...

TIRES!! 110/70-17 front, 150/60-18 rear ????
I've been looking for some new skins for the FZR400, and I can't believe that the only options in the stock sizes are the Bridgestone BT014 (soon to be discontinued, but too damn soft anyway), and some chinese Shinko brand. All of the rest of the big manufacturers don't have anything listed on their...
